Medical billers and coders are the healthcare professionals in charge of processing patient data, such as treatment records and related insurance information. Both medical billing and medical coding professions are involved in the medical reimbursement cycle, working together to ensure that healthcare providers are accurately and efficiently paid for the services they perform.

We are looking for someone who is regarded as reliable, motivated, hardworking and has good communication skills, including a high level of comfortability with phone calling. As a mental health billing intern, you will be tasked with the following:
- Apply payments and adjustments to client accounts
- Follow up with insurance payers for processing of appeals and errors
- Interact with clinicians, managers, and clients as needed to resolve outstanding items
- Maintain current understanding of applicable coding guidelines, state and federal regulations, and managed care guidelines
- Prepare appeals for denied claims
- Prepare medical records and other documents requested by insurance carriers
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- Verify insurance eligibility and receive pre-authorization as needed
- Utilize CPT and ICD-10 codes to submit insurance and Medicaid claims
- Review explanations of benefits for correct adjudication and payment according to applicable managed care contract terms and reimbursement
- Review of unpaid claims, researching denials and/or lack of activity to ensure timely payment and maintain cash flow
- Utilize problem solving skills and pay close attention to detail to resolve any issues with payments.
